Ceramic Wall Display
During Arts Week last summer, children in Reception, Class 1 and Class 2 worked alongside local artist Jackie White to create a new permanent display. The children each created a clay tile which became part of a larger tree. The tree stands over 5 feet tall and over 7 feet wide and depicts British woodland animals and birds over the four seasons. It has taken some time for all 110 tiles to be fired, glazed and then fired again before it was finally brought together like a large jigsaw and attached to the wall during half term.
The result is a wonderfully busy, colourful, striking piece of collaborative artwork which provides a fantastic talking point for lessons across the curriculum and which can be added to at a later date. The children have already really enjoyed looking for their own piece on the wall and spotting more and more animals along the branches and in the nooks and crannies. The wise owl and scurrying squirrel have already become firm favourites!
The project was partly funded by our PTA whose significant contributions towards Arts Week each year are greatly appreciated. A huge thank you also to Jackie White who our children always enjoy working with and who went above and beyond to ensure that the final piece was of such high quality. Do come in and see for yourself outside Mr Davies' office.
